Complete required HR and ENG 100 instructor training each year. Meet each ENG 100 student at every weekly scheduled time. Follow up with any student who misses a weekly class. Copy the Writing Program Administrator on any emails sent to students. Guide students in using a syllabus to make a personal semester schedule of assignments, with benchmarks and deadlines. Help each student to assess and improve their writing on global and local levels. Help each student to use the standard rubric as a guide for improving their writing. Help each student to identify and work on areas for improvement in their writing processes and habits. Develop a rapport with students to aid instruction. Maintain weekly records of attendance, participation, and grades. Identify ideas for the focus of each session for each student. Other related duties as assigned. Education and Experience Enrollment in the UM English Master’s degree program Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Strong knowledge of conventions in academic writing, particularly for conducting academic research and crafting academic essays. Ability to explain concepts of academic writing and the writing process in ways that students can understand and enact. Ability to guide students through the writing process, including research, pre-writing, writing, and revision. Ability to connect and work effectively with students. Ability to balance friendliness with professionalism. Familiarity with Canvas and Word.
