Overview

Financial Care Counselor-Commitment Bonus position with Duke Health. This role supports the DUH ED within the Patient Revenue Management Organization, a centralized revenue cycle group handling scheduling, registration, coding, billing, and other revenue functions. The FCC works from 6 pm to 6 am, Friday through Sunday, arriving to register patients at bedside, process trauma and EMS patients, conduct eligibility and benefit verification, manage POS collections, reconcile daily collections, and handle work queues including patient and claim edits. The role includes functions for DukeED and hospital admissions after North closes, and cover for HIM after hours with scheduling for eye and ortho appointments. This position is positioned to help minimize wait times, maintain collections, and prevent backlog in the DUH ED. Responsibilities

Register patients in a timely, proficient manner at bedside for the DUH ED, including trauma and EMS patients. Perform eligibility and benefit verification; manage POS collections; reconcile daily collections. Operate work queues to address patient and claim edits; support functions for DukeED and hospital admissions after hours. Provide after-hours HIM coverage and schedule appointments for eye and orthopaedic services as needed. Understand and communicate impact of timely registration and accurate billing on ED throughput and revenue. Qualifications

Education: Knowledge of basic grammar and mathematical principles normally acquired through a high school education, with some postsecondary education preferred. Additional training or working knowledge of related business. Experience: Two years of experience in hospital service access, clinical service access, a physician2s office, or billing and collections; OR an associate2s degree in a healthcare-related field with one year of experience working with the public; OR a bachelor2s degree with one year of experience working with the public.
