Overview

Base pay range: $56.54/hr - $59.52/hr. This job receives and accession surgical, biopsy, and autopsy specimens for routine tissue processing and subsequent microscopic examination. Responsibilities include embedding tissues in paraffin, cutting/staining/labeling slides, and performing special procedures such as special stains, immunohistochemistry, and high complexity testing. It also involves developing new procedures, evaluating reagents and equipment, following test plans, coordinating internal validations, teaching and advising staff, providing ongoing education, auditing operations for quality control, and serving as a consultant tech to assist the Laboratory Supervisor as needed. — Bachelor's Degree in Histotechnology, Biology, Chemistry, Physical, Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science. Experience:

— 2+ years experience. Certifications:

— Histotechnologist (HTL) (ASCP) registration; Current Louisiana license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist - Specialist or Generalist. KSAs:

Must

have computer skills for data entry and retrieval, proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard; effective verbal and written communication; strong interpersonal skills. Responsibilities

Properly orients tissue in paraffin embedding medium and ensures surfaces are embedded and sectioned on the same plane. Prepares tissue or slides for Special Procedures (send-outs, EM, IF, Cell Flow, Cytogenetic), including packaging, transportation, documentation, and billing. Maintains an adequate supply of positive control slides; documents QC events with case number and date. Assists in workload management and adjusts schedules as needed. Completes requests from Pathologists, Supervisors, and management within 24 hours; notifies of delays. Cleans and maintains reagents, tissue processors, embedding center, microtomy equipment, stainers, and immunostainers; documents QC; supports section organization during inclement conditions. Follows safety guidelines and documents incidents appropriately. Adapts communication to the patient population and maintains privacy and professionalism. Performs other related duties as required. Remains knowledgeable on current laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements applicable to the area of responsibility; ensures compliance.
