Overview
The Benefits Coordinator provides comprehensive support to refugees and other eligible immigrants in accessing public benefits, including SNAP, Medicaid, cash assistance, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. This role ensures that clients are enrolled in eligible programs within required timeframes, in compliance with program guidelines. The Benefits Coordinator works closely with caseworkers, employment specialists, the Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES), and other local stakeholders to support client well-being and program compliance. Major Responsibilities
Client Services
- Provide comprehensive support to clients enrolling in public benefits programs (SNAP, Medicaid, cash assistance, SSI, WIC). Review applications for accuracy and completeness; prepare enrollment packages and case closure documentation. Conduct enrollment meetings to ensure clients understand their rights and responsibilities. Ensure timely enrollment in benefits to meet program deadlines. Conduct monthly client check-ins to monitor needs and ongoing eligibility. Maintain accurate client documentation and ensure timely reporting in accordance with program requirements. Coordination & Partnerships
- Collaborate with caseworkers and employment specialists to support client benefit enrollment and retention. Participate in DES stakeholder meetings, quarterly consultations, and training events. Communicate trends in resettlement and client needs to leadership, DES, and other partners. Stay informed of regulations governing public assistance programs to provide accurate and timely guidance to clients. Education
Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field preferred. Work Experience
Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in human services required. Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations strongly preferred. Demonstrated Skills & Competencies
Strong relationship-building, diplomacy, and networking skills. Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively in multicultural environments. Self-starter with excellent problem-solving, multitasking, and time-management skills. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other digital tools for data entry, research, and problem-solving. Language Skills
Proficiency in English required; bilingual ability in Spanish, Dari, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Arabic, French, or other refugee/immigrant language preferred. Certificates & Licenses
Valid driver’s license, active insurance, and reliable vehicle required. Must be eligible to obtain and maintain an Arizona fingerprint clearance card. Working Environment
A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required. Must be able to lift 35–50 pounds (furniture, household supplies, food boxes). Compensation
