Scope of Position The Christmas Kettle Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the Christmas Kettle Fundraising Program. This includes, but is not limited to, scheduling and supervision of staff and volunteers, the placement and collection of red kettles, and assisting in the training of volunteers for kettle work. The Coordinator is familiar with volunteer recruitment and may speak in front of groups such as service clubs, schools, and Chambers of Commerce.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be a High School graduate or equivalent. Some post-secondary education is preferred.

A minimum of 6 months of related experience; supervisory experience is preferred.

Must submit to and pass a background check.

Must possess a valid Driver's License and be a minimum of 21 years old.

Must possess the ability to work as part of a dynamic, high performing team and maintain professionalism.

Must have the ability to relate positively to people from diverse backgrounds and communicate well with the general public.

Willingness to accept and support the mission of The Salvation Army.

Be flexible and open to new ideas, concepts, and ways of doing things while keeping pace with multiple tasks.

Possess the ability to work well independently and in a detailed, professional, and courteous manner.

Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.

Possess general accounting and bookkeeping abilities.

Ability to use basic office machines/equipment.

Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Word & Excel.

Able to pass a motor vehicle check and complete The Salvation Army driving requirements.

Essential Functions

Ensure all equipment (signs, stands, kettles, bells, aprons) are clean and in good working order.

Ensure kettle signs and stands are delivered and stored according to store manager instructions prior to the first day of kettles.

Contact all store managers by letter or phone to seek permission to establish a kettle site at their location. Acquire necessary documentation (insurance, etc.) for each site.

Work with Corps Officer to hire and train paid Bell Ringers.

Develop and distribute weekly Bell Ringer/Driver schedules, coordinating with the Volunteer Coordinator to achieve a goal of 50% volunteer bell participation.

Perform spot checks on staff and volunteers to ensure The Salvation Army is represented appropriately.

Collect and verify daily time slips for all paid staff to ensure accuracy prior to submission to the Corps Officer.

Troubleshoot issues that may hinder successful daily kettles operations.

Monitor Bell Ringer/site productivity and work with Corps Officer to make adjustments as needed.

Ensure seasonal staff and volunteers maintain Protecting the Mission compliance.

Adherence to employee dress codes while on duty.

Other seasonal duties as assigned by the Corps.

Additional Information Work Environment:

Work is performed in both indoor office and outdoor settings. The office is heated, ventilated, and quiet. Outdoor settings may involve exposure to wet and cold temperatures.

Physical Demands:

Vision and hearing acuity may be corrected to within normal range; ability to communicate clearly; ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, run, jump, and twist on an intermittent basis. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties with or without accommodations. The Salvation Army will consider reasonable accommodation requests.

Software-related Skills:

Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook familiarity; working knowledge of database applications and ability to learn new software with basic training.

Language Skills:

Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions; able to interact with diverse individuals in person and by phone.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to perform simple calculations and apply ratios and percentages in practical situations.

Performance Skills:

Must be punctual, organized, self-motivated, flexible, and willing to learn and assist others.

Protect the Mission:

Must complete the online course for this area and pass the background checks required by The Salvation Army for employment.
