Requisition Number: S4835P Position Title: Accountant I/II/III Department: Horticulture Division, College of Agriculture Appointment Status: Full-time / Part-time (Limited Term)
Essential Functions
Manage day-to-day financial operations of the department and advise the department head and faculty on financial matters related to teaching, research, extension, and outreach.
Assist the department head with strategic planning for departmental budgets and financial matters.
Assist faculty with the development of extramural funding proposal budgets; assist faculty and administrators with financial management and review of externally-funded contracts and grants.
Prepare, edit, review, and publish financial statements/documents and reports including forecasts, budgets, budget compliance, and analysis of accounts with multi-users.
Audit/review financial records and monitor salaries/wages to ensure compliance with budgets and that accounts are properly expended.
Serve as liaison between the biosystems engineering department and the University Business Office/other units.
Prepare collection reports, journal vouchers, travel vouchers, and vendor vouchers for multiple users.
Review and update rates for service centers; assist the Contracts & Grants Specialists for the College of Agriculture and the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Level I:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a similar field plus a CPA with no experience.
Level II:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a similar field plus a CPA plus 2 years of experience. Experience must include at least 2 years at the preceding level or equivalent.
Level III:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a similar field plus a CPA plus 4 years of experience. Experience must include at least 2 years at the preceding level or equivalent.
Substitutions allowed: When a candidate has the required education but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year of relevant education per year of required experience.
Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications
Excellent interpersonal communication skills; ability to organize, prioritize work, and handle multiple tasks.
Demonstrated knowledge of financial management.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proficiency with spreadsheet and database programs such as Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
Desired Qualifications
CPA and/or Master of Accountancy.
Knowledge and experience with Auburn University financial reporting systems, budget, contract, and grant operations, policies and procedures.
