Job Description This position serves as a Rehabilitation Technician/Client Intake and Support Specialist for the Blind/Visually Impaired in the Division of Blind Services District 9 Office, located in Palmetto, Florida. This role provides intake services and case management for blind and visually impaired consumers. Intake includes gathering eye medical data for eligibility determination by the Human Services Program Consultant (Independent Living/Children's Program Counselor).
Duties & Responsibilities
Conduct client intake.
Assess client resources.
Perform follow-up and maintain client contact via telephone and email.
Interview, counsel, and evaluate clients to determine individual therapeutic activity needs.
Consult with other professionals and team members on recommended programs.
Prepare reports on clients’ progress and reactions to activities.
Evaluate rehabilitation therapy programs and make recommendations for adjustments.
Conduct in-depth interviews with diverse blind and visually impaired clients to determine eligibility for rehabilitation services and feasibility of goals.
Determine problems and needs to achieve independence in daily living, communication skills, and employment.
Develop community contacts for benefits and socialization.
Assist in policy, standards, rules, regulations, and guidelines for program planning.
Review applicant records to ensure documentation is current and compliant.
Draft letters and other correspondence.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of medical and psychological aspects of rehabilitation and employment program processes.
Knowledge of community resources and office procedures.
Ability to operate a computer terminal and general office equipment.
Ability to work independently and make decisions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to maintain records and to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work.
Who We’re Looking For The ideal candidate must work productively under tight timeframes, balance priorities, and interact courteously with others. Attendance is an essential function.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to vocational rehabilitation; or
Four years of professional and relevant experience in a public vocational rehabilitation program. Preference will be given to those with a bachelor’s degree.
Preferred Qualifications
A bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Three to five years’ experience in a public vocational rehabilitation program.
Ability to establish and maintain education and experience requirements to understand evolving labor force needs of individuals with disabilities.
Knowledge of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).
