Status:

Fulltime, Exempt Position Hours:

Monday-Friday, 40 hours. Summer hours 9:00 AM-6:00 PM. Academic year hours 6:15-10:15am, 2:00-6:00. Holidays, nights, and weekends off with occasional meetings or events outside of work hours. Pay:

Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA) Regional Office, 1465 Lakeside Rd., Virginia Beach The School-Age Care (SAC) Manager is responsible for the daily operation, supervision, and administration of the school’s before and after school care program and the summer camp program. This includes planning activities, managing staff, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment, and fostering positive relationships with children, parents, and school staff. The SAC Manager demonstrates leadership by creating and maintaining a positive learning environment for families and staff. The Manager collaborates with executive staff in operating the academy in accordance with VDOE/DSS policies, organization procedures and state licensing. The Manager is hands-on and assumes all responsibilities and duties for school-age care and summer camp operation, including hiring, training, mentoring staff, supervision and providing continuing educational opportunities for advancement. This position requires an enthusiastic individual with exceptional customer service who promotes and upholds the ASYMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Education and Experience Requirements The Program Manager must be at least 21 years old and have the following qualifications: A graduate degree in a child-related field such as education, nursing, sociology, psychology, human development and family studies, or another child-related field and one year of experience as a teacher; OR A bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, school-age care, child development, social work, nursing, sociology, psychology, human development and family studies, or another child-related field and one year of experience as a teacher; OR An associate’s degree in early childhood education or related field and two years of experience as a teacher; OR A national competency-based credential such as CCP or CDA (or approved equivalent) and three years of experience as a teacher; AND Documented Leadership training (if not the holder of NAC or equivalent administrator credential); AND National Administrator Credential (NAC or equivalent approved administrator credential) OR a course in early childhood or business administration OR one year of experience as the administrator of an early childhood or school age care program (three years preferred). Additional Requisites Must pass a full Central Registry Background Check, Drug, TB and Fingerprint Screenings; Must maintain a valid driver’s license and have a clean driving record; Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, and basic software management; Possess excellent record-keeping skills and have experience with budgeting and finance practices; Understanding of military family life preferred. Key Responsibilities Program Management

Develop and implement daily schedules, activities, lesson plans and curriculum appropriate for school-age children in coordination with classroom teachers. Ensure compliance with state licensing regulations and school policies. Maintain a sense of urgency and be proactive in directing staff and students during emergencies and drills. Maintain accurate attendance, incident, and communication records. Coordinate snack planning ensuring nutritional guidelines are followed. Work with the Business Administrator for bus routes and oversight.

Staff Supervision

Recruit, hire, train, and supervise program staff and volunteers. Provide ongoing performance feedback and conduct staff evaluations. Schedule staff to ensure adequate supervision ratios.

Child Supervision and Interaction

Maintain a safe and engaging environment for children. Implement positive behavior management strategies. Monitor children’s well-being and communicate concerns with parents and school staff.

Family and Community Engagement

Communicate regularly with parents about their child’s experience and development. Work with Media/Marketing Specialist to create at least 2 monthly posts. Serve as the primary point of contact for parent concerns or emergencies. Promote the program within the school and greater community.

Administrative Duties

Manage program budget and supplies. Oversees registration and maintain documentation in accordance with DSS & NECPA standards. Post payments, submit subsidies and reconcile all tuition accounts. Prepare reports for the school administration or licensing agencies as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The SAC Program Manager must: Possess excellent oral and written communication skills; Have superior conflict resolution skills; the Manager will be the primary contact for all parent/child/staff concerns, issues and disputes; Develop and maintain a positive, productive, professional rapport with staff; Recruit, select and retain quality staff and submit updates to HR in a timely manner for processing; Work with the Business Operations Manager to maintain up-to-date records for staff, as well as implement all VDOE licensing requirements; Develop positive partnerships with school divisions and community organizations to promote programs. Under the direction of the CYP Director, collaborate with other department head managers to strengthen and expand current programs to meet the unique needs of students/families; Assist in developing an annual budget for all School-Age Care programs; Maintain up-to-date student and staff files as required per licensing standards and subsidies and use data to compile reports for funders as requested; Collaborate with staff to ensure development of engaging, age- and interest-appropriate lessons (submitted at least one week in advance) and ensure lessons are implemented using developmentally appropriate practices; Supervise staff regularly and provide observation/evaluation feedback; Implement monthly emergency drills to ensure safe practices; Order and maintain accurate supply lists and materials, and keep high quality materials in classrooms; Participate in leadership team meetings and events; Create a weekly snack menu and oversee snack preparation; Plan, organize, develop, and implement a program curriculum with high-interest activities; Assist Business Operations Manager in overseeing bus transportation, including scheduling and training; primary responsibility to ensure safe transport; may drive occasionally; Assist the Marketing Specialist to promote the programs and keep website and digital platforms updated (at least two posts monthly); Update staff and parent handbooks and program materials annually and provide training to ensure adherence to protocols; Conduct tours and register/acclimate families to the programs; Assist teachers with managing challenging behavior and communicate with parents; Plan and execute monthly staff meetings and newsletters; Handle all scheduling needs and provide prompt, courteous service to all families. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Stand, sit, walk, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. Employees may lift up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally. WORK ENVIRONMENT This position involves daily interaction with children and direct supervision of staff, inside and outside the building. Regular communication with parents is expected. It is an active work environment with a moderate noise level including outdoor time. TRAVEL 10% travel is expected for this position. Travel to facilities, local schools, events, field trips, and for supplies may be required.
