JOB SUMMARY

The Head Start Lead Teacher is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing classroom activities for preschool children. This role involves working with children from diverse backgrounds, including those with disabilities, and engaging with families to support the children’s overall development. PRINCIPLE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Group/Head Teacher, the Assistant Teacher shall be responsible for: Intervening in the prevention of child abuse and neglect, as mandated by Federal and State Law. Maintaining confidentiality of family records and information. Participating in all appropriate trainings and meetings. Assisting in planning and executing a program that considers the social, developmental, and health needs of the group and individual children. Assisting in maintaining observational logs and other record-keeping for each child. Supervising the group of children when the Group Teacher is not present. Reporting or assisting in the removal of damaged or hazardous equipment to the appropriate personnel for action. Keeping equipment and materials accessible and in good condition to encourage constructive use by children. Planning classroom furniture arrangements conducive to young children's learning environment. Using shared space effectively within the total center program. Developing and maintaining positive relationships with families in collaboration with the Group Teacher. Attending and participating in monthly educational parent meetings. Sharing information about children and the program with families according to approved plans. Encouraging parent attendance at meetings. QUALIFICATIONS

Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or Social Services, with 1-2 years’ experience in an early childhood setting. Minimum CDA or completed 60 college credits, with 1-2 years’ experience working with children from birth to age 3 in a center-based setting, or equivalent.
