Sous Chef
to work a Full Time schedule in our Bistro. Join our culinary team and make a resident’s day by providing them with flavorful, quality meals. We produce a diverse array of foods, exceeding typical retirement community offerings, including nutritious options and indulgent treats. Want to add your own specialties? Let’s work together to make a difference. In this position, a Sous Chef will participate in, supervise, and coordinate the preparation of menu items. Responsibilities include ensuring food is prepared, portioned, garnished, and presented according to Burcham’s standards. Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment. Additional duties include: Quality of Food:
Prepare palatable and attractive meals from standardized recipes, monitor appearance, temperature, sanitation, quality standards, and portion control. Sanitation:
Ensure all kitchen areas meet or exceed health department requirements; document compliance; handle food properly; label and date items correctly; organize work areas; monitor equipment; report concerns. Customer Satisfaction and Teamwork:
Be courteous; ensure orders are accurate; deliver meals timely; honor dietary restrictions; meet resident needs and fulfill special requests. Lead the Bistro team to ensure smooth operations. ServSafe Certified (or ability to obtain within 90 days). One year of experience in quantity food production preferred. Capable of working under stressful, high-volume conditions. Able to manage multiple tasks, exercise independent judgment, and follow through to completion with minimal supervision. Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English to interpret menus, address resident requests, and follow safety rules. Excellent customer service skills. Able to communicate effectively and empathetically with residents, families, visitors, staff, and others.
