The Medication Aide
is responsible for helping residents with basic daily needs such as medication administration, bringing them their meals, helping them eat, and aiding as they bathe, dress, brush their hair or use the bathroom.
Other Job Duties
Deliver routine daily medications, either prescription or over the counter to residents.
Coordinate with different nurses to assist with resident care and medications.
Follow written and/or verbal instructions on how to manage medications.
Records medication dosages and times appropriately.
Observe residents and document changes in their condition.
Gather samples for analysis.
Ensure equipment is routinely inspected and cleaned.
Uphold all health and safety standards.
Respond to resident emergency lights, bells, or intercom systems to identify resident needs.
Ensure that residents take their medications not cheek or store them.
Assist residents with positioning for comfort and safety.
Assist with transferring of residents to limit falls or accidents.
Serve as liaison between residents and nurses for needs and or desires.
Checking medications match Doctor/Standing Orders for the resident
Administering medication to resident.
Staying with resident while they take the medication.
Recording the time and date of medication administration.
Taking and recording resident vital signs as ordered.
Noting any adverse effects of the medication on the resident (stomach upset, hives, vomiting, etc.)
Getting rooms ready for new residents by stocking items, tidying the room and making the bed, emptying trash.
If asked to, they assist Nurses with treatments, gather supplies for them, and change wound dressings as directed.
Qualifications
Ability to speak, write and understand English.
High School Diploma or relevant equivalent
Certified Medication Aide in good standing in the State of North Carolina.
Current CNA certification
BLS and CPR Certified by American Heart Association.
A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a medication aide.
Able to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Good understanding of medical and pharmacological terminology.
Ability to pass a drug screen and background check.
Evidence of a negative TB skin test within in the last 12 months or its equivalent.
Ability to follow directions both written and verbally.
Passion for caring for the elderly population.
