Humanities Adjunct
Position Overview
Note:
Adjunct positions at UCO are part-time teaching positions. This posting is to create a pool of interested applicants from which the Department may draw as sections become open at any point in the current academic year. This posting may or may not result in the hiring of adjuncts. Adjunct faculty members provide quality learning experiences for students and support the educational philosophy, mission, and long-term goals of the University of Central Oklahoma, the College of Liberal Arts, and the hiring department. They teach classes, advise and mentor students, evaluate student performance, and maintain student records in accordance with university policies. Adjunct faculty members work collaboratively with colleagues and adhere to all policies in the UCO Faculty and Employee Handbooks.
Department Specific Essential Job Functions
Adjuncts teach sections of General Humanities HUM 2113 Ancient to Medieval and/or General Humanities HUM 2223 Renaissance to Modern. These interdisciplinary courses cover broad aspects of human culture (art, literature, music, religion, philosophy) over time and the aesthetic qualities of artistic media. Instructors are needed for both in-person and online courses; online teaching requires formal training through the University Center for eLearning and Connected Environments (CeCE), which can be taken after hiring. Adjuncts for both formats must be residents of Oklahoma.
Qualifications/Experience Required
Possesses at least a master's degree in the specified field (exceptions require approval). Possesses excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Qualifications/Experience Preferred
Experience teaching humanities at the college level.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Teaches, advises, mentors, evaluates students, and maintains records per university policies. Works collaboratively with colleagues and participates in faculty meetings. Adheres to all policies in the Faculty and Employee Handbooks.
Physical Demands
