Pay will be between $26.45 to $47.77 hourly ($55,016.00 - $99,365.02 annually), depending on sworn law enforcement experience. Officers are also eligible to receive an education stipend for completed Associate Degree ($1,000 per year) or Bachelor's Degree ($2,000 per year).

Charlottesville Police Department

is seeking

VIRGINIA DCJS CERTIFIED POLICE OFFICERS

to enforce laws fairly and impartially, partner with the community, and protect property and rights. Duties include routine patrol, investigations, traffic enforcement, responding to calls, arresting suspects, and reporting. Work involves personal risk and requires judgment in emergencies, under supervision of a Police Sergeant.

Note:

This position is advertised as "Continuous." Submit applications promptly; they may be evaluated on a rolling basis and close at any time after 7 days. Responsibilities include:

Patrol designated districts to prevent crimes and improve traffic safety.

Partner with community members and City employees to solve safety issues.

Respond to calls, secure scenes, investigate, and make arrests.

Issue citations, investigate accidents, interview witnesses, and maintain reports.

Operate police vehicles and equipment, and appear in court as needed.

Provide public information and participate in community policing and training.

Education:

High School Diploma or GED. Requirements:

Must be at least 21, certified as a Law Enforcement Officer in Virginia, possess a valid Virginia driver’s license, and pass various screening tests including physical, psychological, and background checks. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible for citizenship. Disqualifiers:

Felony or serious misdemeanor convictions, recent DUI or drug use, body modifications violating policy, or incomplete application. Preferred:

Higher education, law enforcement or military experience, proficiency in a foreign language, or internships. Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of law enforcement practices, laws, geography, departmental rules, and the ability to communicate effectively, exercise judgment, and maintain integrity. This is a safety-sensitive position with mandatory drug testing. Work hours include nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency calls. The environment is mostly outdoors, with physical demands including extensive walking, running, and operating vehicles. Visual, auditory, olfactory, and tactile abilities are required to perform duties effectively. #J-18808-Ljbffr
