The 2nd Assistant Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for supporting the Golf Course Superintendent in the overall management and maintenance of the golf course grounds and surrounding areas. This role includes overseeing staff, ensuring course and facility maintenance, and handling various duties related to irrigation, landscaping, equipment maintenance, chemical applications, and seasonal tasks. Key Responsibilities: Staff Management & Supervision: Assist in the hiring, training, and scheduling of grounds maintenance staff. Course & Grounds Maintenance: Supervise and participate in mowing, rolling, and cutting cups on greens, tees, fairways, and roughs. Chemical & Fertilizer Application: Oversee the spraying of pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers on the course. Equipment Maintenance: Ensure proper maintenance and repair of golf course maintenance equipment. Landscaping & Beautification: Assist with planting, growing, and maintaining plants, shrubs, and trees on the course. Special Projects: Lead and assist in special seasonal projects, including building and decorating a Halloween haunted house or installing Christmas lights. Building Maintenance & Repairs: Assist with general building and facility maintenance. Snow Removal & Winter Operations: Coordinate and assist in snow removal during the winter months. What You Need for this Position: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Turf Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field, or equivalent experience. 3+ years experience in golf course maintenance, with skills in staff supervision, irrigation systems, chemical applications, and equipment repair. Requires a Michigan 3A and 3B commercial spray license. Strong knowledge of turf management, including the ability to identify and treat turf diseases, pests, and other issues.
