Senior Public Safety Officer - UTPD

Position Summary As a Senior Public Safety Officer, you will collaborate closely with Patient Relations to support visitor management strategies, ensure the functionality of security technologies, and lead fellow Public Safety Officers in achieving departmental goals. You will serve as a front‑line contact with clients, manage risk prevention rounds, and maintain operational readiness of security technology.
Key Responsibilities
Provide team leadership and ongoing professional development of Public Safety Officers.
Assist in coordination and security services related to campus events and actively engage in the overall entry experience with the Patient Relations team.
May assume Public Safety Supervisor duties when the Public Safety Supervisor is absent.
Complete quality assurance reviews and participate in field training of Public Safety Officers.
Ensure staff have a clear and thorough working knowledge of security devices and protocols.
Patrol university buildings and property on foot and by vehicle to prevent theft, vandalism, or other criminal activity and respond to calls for service in a timely manner.
Complete appropriate security incident reports and serve as a front‑line contact with clients and act as the customer’s advocate to ensure efficient and effective delivery of security services.
Define and oversee risk prevention rounds to identify and mitigate security risks.
Perform other duties as assigned, including emergency recall and remaining on site during unusual occurrences.
Qualifications

Commitment to customer service and institutional safety.
Commercial Driver License Class A, B, or C by State of Texas required, or Driver License (DL) required.
Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO), Certified Advance Healthcare Security Officer (CAHSO), or Certified Health Security Supervisor (CHSS) preferred.
Minimum Education and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s Degree preferred.
2 years as a Public Safety Officer or related experience required; 3 years preferred.
Physical Requirements
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
Security Sensitive
This position is a security‑sensitive position pursuant to Texas Education Code, Texas Government Code, and Texas Business and Commerce Code, requiring the holder to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure.
Residency Requirement Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
