Mammo Technologist II - Cinco Ranch Comprehensive Care Center (Katy/ Richmond)

Houston Methodist is seeking an experienced Mammography Technologist II who completes a variety of routine and specialized mammograms and performs quality controls as needed. This position is a member of the direct patient care team and is fully competent in all aspects of various mammography procedures. The Mammography Technologist II serves as a mentor to Mammography Technologist I and students, helping train and educate others. This role works independently, exercising sound judgment and applying above-average clinical skills on challenging mammography procedures and patient care situations. The Mammography Technologist II delivers exceptional patient care and adheres to mammography standards and guidelines established by governing agencies to ensure optimal patient safety and customer service.

Collaborates with all members of the patient care team by actively communicating and reporting pertinent patient care information and data in a comprehensive manner.

Guides and mentors Mammography Technologist I and students to build confidence in skills, knowledge, and abilities. Uses peer-to-peer accountability towards department goals for retention and employee engagement.

Service Essential Functions

Performs mammograms for both diagnostic and screening purposes; performs biopsies and bone density exams.

Assesses and responds to patient needs to optimize care, image quality, and experience, including positioning, physiology, procedure preparation, and technical factors. Modifies technical factors to achieve imaging results and recognizes complications and limitations.

Provides direct assistance to physicians during diagnostic and interventional breast procedures, including sterile technique.

Explains and instructs patients and family members at an appropriate level using clear terminology and language.

Quality/Safety Essential Functions

Follows safety standards, maintains sterile techniques, and ensures compliance with radiation safety and infection control procedures. Adheres to safety standards and hospital policies. Uses critical thinking to review images and adjust to meet MQSA regulations.

Identifies opportunities for corrective action and process improvement; reports near misses and inputs errors promptly to improve processes and identify trends. Addresses patient reactions or potential outcomes as appropriate.

Ensures imaging equipment has QC performed and is in safe working order; reports malfunctions and participates in preventative maintenance.

Assists with implementation and education of department safety initiatives and standards of practice.

Finance Essential Functions

Provides accurate and complete documentation of patient procedures. Enters charges at the time of service.

Uses resources efficiently and prioritizes daily tasks; manages time effectively.

Growth/Innovation Essential Functions

Fosters a positive teaching environment by engaging Mammography Technologist I and students in valuable learning opportunities aligned with business objectives.

Participates in special projects and department initiatives; identifies self-development needs and maintains ongoing development plans.

Education

Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) indicated below in the Certifications, Licenses and Registrations section.

Work Experience

Three years' experience as a Mammography Technologist.

Licenses and Certifications - Required

CMRT - Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist - State Licensure (Registration as an MRT)

ARRT-R - Radiologic Technologist - Radiographer (ARRT)

ARRT-M - Radiologic Technologist - Mammography (ARRT)

BLS - Basic Life Support (AHA)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, assessed through ongoing evaluations.

Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English as it relates to patient and employee safety.

Effective communication with patients, physicians, family members, and coworkers with a customer-service focus.

Ability to work independently, handle challenging procedures, and exercise sound judgment.

Basic computer knowledge; able to use hospital/Radiology Information Systems and office software.

Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills and ability to adapt to multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
