Description This individual will serve as a member of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery within the Department of Surgery, functioning as a Cardiac Surgeon.

Examples of Duties

Administration 5%

Provide expertise on trends in thoracic surgery and implement new programs aligned with the mission of the School and affiliated hospitals.

Assess regional manpower needs for cardiothoracic surgeons and develop educational programs for undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education.

Teaching 25%

Develop educational objectives, curriculum content, delivery methods, and assessments for undergraduate medical education in cardiothoracic surgery.

Assist in planning and implementing cardiothoracic surgery programs.

Organize and conduct continuing education in cardiothoracic surgery.

Represent cardiothoracic surgery in educational planning across the School.

Serve on educational committees within the School of Medicine.

Research 15%

Recommend research areas and programs relevant to the needs of the faculty and division's mission.

Serve as a role model for students, residents, and faculty as an investigator.

Work to secure funds for research in cardiothoracic surgery.

Service 55%

Maintain a high-quality cardiac surgery practice as a role model for students and residents.

Provide consultative and diagnostic services to staff and physicians.

Participate in departmental, medical school, and hospital committees.

Qualifications

Sensitivity to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.

MD license, eligible to be licensed in Illinois.

Successful completion of cardiothoracic residency and fellowship.

Board-Certified or Board-Eligible in Cardiothoracic Surgery.

Supplemental Information The annual salary range is $300,000 to $330,000, determined by market data, internal equity, experience, and qualifications. Additional incentives may be available for clinical work beyond standard responsibilities.
