Position is primarily responsible for providing personal protection and security for all students, employees, and others on campus. Secondary role is to provide protection to campus facilities, property, and personal property of all persons on campus. The nature of the position requires night and weekend duty. Works effectively as a member of the Facilities and Plant Operations Department. Essential Functions of the Job

Must be observant for suspicious/irregular or threatening activities across facilities. Must be available to aid and escort students and employees to appropriate destinations. Must always be highly visible and available for student and employee safety needs. Requires regular inspection tours, on foot, of assigned buildings which requires walking long distances, climbing stairs, and may expose the employee to extreme weather conditions. Inspections include checking doors, windows, and gates. Monitor people in buildings requiring authorization and help ensure only authorized individuals remain. Maintain awareness of building hours, fire and intrusion alarm status, and ongoing maintenance problems. Stay knowledgeable of state fire codes, university safety guidelines, and policies governing university buildings. Safeguards the university against hazards, safety problems, and property damage. Ensure appropriate illumination of buildings, including exits and stairwell lights. Inspect buildings with an eye toward utility conservation. Take prompt action to eliminate immediate danger to life or property. Responds to emergency situations, usually on foot. Assist in building evacuations, perimeter control when necessary, and report life-threatening conditions or property loss/damage to proper authorities. Provide assistance as trained and stand by until help arrives. Work cooperatively with others to provide courteous, complete, and efficient service. Maintain proper care and control of department equipment and vehicles. Participate in and/or provide training as required. Flexible to work evenings and weekend hours and to work overtime as necessary. Represent the University positively. Perform other duties as assigned with little or no advance notice. May involve standing for long periods or exposure to extreme weather conditions. Work closely with Facilities/Maintenance/Grounds/Custodial departments and assist as needed. Other duties as assigned. High School Diploma or equivalent required. Training in the field preferred. Required Experience

3-5 years of work experience; prior safety-related work experience preferred. Additional Eligibility Requirements
