The School of Chemical Engineering at UNSW has an opportunity for a Research Associate. In this role, you will conduct research in nanomaterials both independently and as part of a team. The position focuses on a project involving experiments across synthesis, optimisation, characterisation, catalytic analysis, and biological testing of nanomaterials.

This position will provide you with the opportunity to develop your scholarly research and professional activities both nationally and internationally. You will contribute to writing scientific papers and reports for international journals, participate in conferences and workshops, supervise HDR students, and actively engage with industry partners.

This role reports to Associate Professor Sophia Gu and has no direct reports.

Salary, Level A - $113,911 to $121,838 per annum + 17% superannuation

Full time

Fixed-term contract – 12 months with possibility to extend

Location: Kensington – Sydney, Australia

Skills & Experience

PhD in material science and engineering, chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, or nanotechnology-related area.

Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentation in the relevant field.

Demonstrated previous research experience in synthesis, characterisation, catalysis and/or bio-applications of carbon nanomaterials.

Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.

Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research and conduct independent research with limited supervision.

Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.

Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.

An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.

Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
