What You'll Do: The Correction Officer responsibilities include: Maintaining control of the institution to ensure safety and security for the facility, inmates, staff, and the public by enforcing rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Supervising and directing inmate activity in assigned areas. Ensuring assigned areas are clean, safe, and secure. Monitoring and operating security controls, equipment, and computers. Operating automotive vehicles for perimeter security and transporting inmates. Conducting inmate counts, security rounds, and searches. Completing required reports and serving on committees. Preventing escapes or incidents that threaten security. Using physical force, unarmed self-defense, firearms, or other means to detain or secure inmates when necessary. Newly hired Correction Officers will start at step 1, earning $23.12 per hour, and will move to step 2, earning $23.79, after 6 months of employment. Additional earning opportunity: earn an extra $0.60 per hour when working 2nd or 3rd shift. Qualifications include a high school diploma or G.E.D., a valid driver’s license (for transportation positions), and/or a commercial driver’s license if required for specific vehicles. Applicants must pass a correction officer assessment or have completed one within the past 24 months, or be current employees who have previously been certified as correction officers. The probationary period is 365 days. Job Skills:
