What You'll Do:
The Correction Officer responsibilities include:
Maintaining control of the institution to provide for safety and security of the facility, inmates, staff, and the general public by enforcing rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Supervising and directing inmate activity in assigned areas of the facility/institution.
Ensuring the assigned area is clean, safe, and secure.
Monitoring and operating security controls, equipment, and computers.
Operating automotive vehicles in perimeter security and the transportation of inmates.
Conducting inmate counts, security rounds, and searches.
Completing required reports and serving on committees.
Preventing escapes or incidents that threaten security.
Using physical force, unarmed self-defense, firearms, or other force when necessary to detain or secure inmates.
Newly hired Correction Officers will be hired at step 1 ($23.12/hour) and will move to step 2 ($23.79/hour) after 6 months of employment.
Earn an additional $0.60 per hour when working 2nd or 3rd shift.
Requirements include a high school diploma or G.E.D., a valid driver’s license for positions in transportation, and/or a commercial driver’s license for driving commercial vehicles. Applicants must pass a correction officer assessment or have completed one within the past 24 months, or be current employees with Ohio Department of Rehabilitation & Correction previously certified as correction officers. The probationary period is 365 days.
