The position is a substitute role to support students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing and provide access to instruction and school activities as part of a team. Significance of the role

Sign Language Interpreters are an integral part of a team that supports students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing. They serve as a vital communication link to DHH students and others within the educational environment, ensuring full access to instruction, school activities, and school-based social relationships. Substitute Sign Language Interpreters are utilized within MMSD on an as-needed basis. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Receptively and expressively interpret or transliterate all information presented in the educational environment, including classroom content, interpersonal interactions, school events and activities, and environmental sounds, as prescribed by the IEP. Collaborate with MMSD Substitute Office, DHH team members, and building administration to coordinate daily assignment logistics. Partner with classroom teachers and other educators to optimize access in the educational environment, adapt physical settings, positioning, background, dress, lighting, and support all stakeholders in appropriate utilization of sign language interpreting services. Gather instructional materials and share pertinent information with the DHH team during the assignment and upon departure. Independently confirm assignments through the MMSD online substitute system. Follow the NAIE Educational Interpreter Code of Ethics. Minimum Qualifications

Associate Degree (or higher) in Sign Language Interpretation WI Department of Public Instruction (DPI) Educational Interpreter License or WI DPI Educational Interpreter Substitute License Physical Requirements

Full use of arms, shoulders, back and wrists, including range of motion and ability to handle repetitive motions. Ability to quickly move to where the teacher or student is located. Work requires ambulatory movement, climbing, bending, reaching, and kneeling. Position Competencies
