The Public Safety Officer Level I is under the direct supervision of the Public Safety Officer Sergeant/Captain. The Public Safety Officer Level I and II patrol assigned areas of the campus, including offices, buildings, and parking areas, and report via telephone or radio. The Public Safety Officer takes action to protect persons and property and prevent fires, theft, vandalism, disorder, and damage to college property. The Senior Public Safety Officer on duty may serve as Officer in Charge of the shift in the absence of the Sergeant/Captain. This is a Public Safety Union position as stated in the Public Safety collective bargaining agreement. Responsibilities

Attend and complete to standard all assigned departmental training Work in a paramilitary structure with a well-defined chain of command Arrive on time and properly attired for assigned shifts (uniform may be required) Be available for shift and weekend work and for assignments to multiple campuses Record and report information concerning complaints and refer to Shift leaders Issue traffic tickets and/or warnings for violations of traffic/parking regulations and policies Patrol corridors, parking areas and roadways; direct traffic as assigned Assist college population with jump-starts, vehicle unlocks, and personal escorts to vehicles as assigned Provide emergency medical treatment (to the level of certification) Complete incident reports and related work forms Work indoors and outdoors, sometimes in extreme weather conditions Spend extended periods standing, walking, and climbing stairs; maintain a vigorous working pace Answer telephones and communicate using portable radios and base station radios in compliance with department and FCC standards Assist persons on campus Operate department identification card equipment, issue ID cards and parking stickers Maintain good interpersonal communications, work as a team member, and have solid computer/keyboard skills Keep work-related topics confidential Be exposed to verbal and possible physical abuse by irate persons Perform all duties without supervision Assume Officer in Charge duties in the absence of the Sergeant/Captain Assist in training newly hired officers Perform other related duties as assigned Qualifications

Overall Purpose and Responsibility:

The primary responsibility is to provide service in a pleasant, helpful, and effective manner to students and other members of the College community. Valid driver's license 18 years of age United States citizen No criminal record Must pass a drug screening test Must have demonstrable computer knowledge and skills Education

High school diploma or equivalent Experience

Six months related experience and/or successful completion of the contractual probationary period of work experience as Rowan College at Burlington County's Public Safety Officer. Skills / Abilities / Knowledge / Other Requirements

No disciplinary action during the previous six months A positive rating on evaluations Training Required Within 12 Months of Hire

Work is performed indoors and outdoors, sometimes in extreme weather conditions and temperatures. May require long periods of standing or walking. May involve risk to persons and exposure to verbal and possible physical abuse by irate individuals. Shift and weekend work plus assignments to multiple campuses are required. Institutional Effectiveness

Collaborates with department members and/or the Compliance, Assessment and Research team to support planning, assessment, data collection and reporting for continuous improvement of the college. Employee Classification: Support Staff
