Housekeeping Assistant Specialist I – Support Services Environmental Location: Chicago, Illinois | Feinberg/Galter; FL BS
Union Hourly Compensation (non-negotiable): $20.15 per hour (+ $0.97/hour for shift pay differential). The role is graded as a non-exempt position meaning you are eligible for overtime.
Schedule: Full-time, Evening Shift (3:00 PM – 11:30 PM). Works Every Other Weekend and Works Every Holiday.

Overview: The Housekeeping Assistant Specialist I reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. The Housekeeping Assistant Specialist I, under the direction of the supervisor of Environmental Services, assists the supervisor in the orientation of new departmental personnel assigned to insure completeness. This position performs general and heavy cleaning of operating rooms, public areas offices and patient rooms.
Description
Hours: 40 hours per week
Responsibilities include general and heavy cleaning duties in offices, patient rooms, clean and soiled utility rooms, laboratories, public areas, and stairways; operating heavy equipment as necessary; and ensuring cleanliness to hospital standards.
Assist the supervisor in orientating new housekeeping assistants to the department.
Clean and maintain floors, surfaces, and equipment; utilize appropriate hospital-approved chemicals; use ladders and scaffolds as needed.
Clean window sills, waste baskets, bathrooms, patient rooms, offices, and public areas; dispose of waste and bio-hazardous materials as required.
Move furniture and assist in freight moving; transport hospital property between areas as directed.
Operate electrical and battery-operated machines for scrubbing, shampooing, and burnishing; strip and refinish floors as directed.
Maintain and clean equipment; return equipment to assigned locations; keep janitor’s closet and storage areas neat and orderly.
Assist with bed tracking system processes: log in at shift start, update bed statuses during cleaning, and log out at shift end.
Perform in-between case cleaning in ORs and terminal cleaning of ORs and LDRs after deliveries.
Return keys and pagers; perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
Ability to understand oral instructions
Preferred:
High School diploma or GED equivalent; One to two years of experience
