Responsibilities
Oversee development and production of world‑class exhibitions annually, ensuring relevance to campus and the larger Milwaukee community.
Lead vision for the museum’s 10,000‑object collection, chair the Collections Committee, and guide collection stewardship.
Supervise museum education initiatives for higher education, K‑12, and lifelong learners, and develop exhibition‑related public program content.
Collaborate on long‑range institutional planning, develop exhibition and programmatic priorities, and serve as the museum’s primary spokesperson.
Supervise staff, including hiring, performance management, and staff development.
Prepare budget proposals and monitor use of resources to remain within approved annual budgets.
Forge partnerships with Marquette units and local organizations to enhance collective impact.
Cultivate relationships with donors, collectors, artists, and galleries to support exhibitions and collection growth.
Serve as spokesperson on and off campus, participate in professional organizations, and represent the museum at conferences.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree in art history, museum studies, or related field.
Minimum 5 years’ experience planning exhibitions and managing a modern/contemporary art collection.
Proven experience developing cross‑cultural exhibitions with internal and external stakeholders.
People management and supervisory experience in an arts administration role.
Fundraising experience, especially developing relationships with donors for the museum’s collection and exhibitions.
Knowledge of curatorial practices, ethics, and regulations.
Strong leadership, decision‑making, interpersonal, planning, and organizational skills.
Ability to develop and monitor annual operating and multi‑year project budgets.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to work occasional nights and weekends; occasional travel required.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Master’s degree in a related field.
Experience in volunteer management, donor cultivation, and stewardship.
Knowledge of internal Marquette software and databases.
Experience with budget development, analysis, and management.
Experience with pre‑ and post‑award grant management.
Strong work ethic and record of ethical service.
