The Madison Metropolitan School District is the second largest school district in Wisconsin. The district serves a beautifully diverse population of more than 25,000 students. More than half are students of color. Almost half come from low income households. Nearly one third are English Language Learners, and more than 100 languages are represented in our schools. Description
AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) is a college readiness system implemented in Madison Metropolitan middle and high schools. AVID Tutors facilitate small, student-led tutorial groups, model and support the development of inquiry and critical thinking skills. AVID Tutors work with AVID students during the academic school day and are an integral part of the AVID college readiness elective course.
Additional duties include: assessing and providing feedback on student work, attending regular tutorial debrief meetings and additional professional learning scheduled throughout the year.
Work Schedule
Lead AVID Tutors work in AVID middle schools within MMSD. Tutors are required to work the same schedule Wednesdays and Fridays during a school’s scheduled AVID elective classes, as well as an additional 6-8 hours throughout the week during the academic school day to provide additional classroom and coordinator support (schedule coordinated to work with the AVID team’s needs). Tutors are scheduled between 10 - 16 hours of work per week.
Qualifications
Previous AVID tutoring experience and knowledge of AVID tutorology methodologies Previous experience working with diverse middle school students Excellent communication skills Ability to commit for the entirety of the 2024-2025 school year Organized, responsible, flexible, motivated, professional Positive recommendations around attendance, attitude, and performance Candidates are either currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution or a college graduate
Additional Desired Qualifications
Previous AVID tutoring experience and knowledge of AVID tutorology methodologies Experience working with students in a pre-college or college readiness programs
