Sheriff's Department is accepting applications for Sheriff’s Cooks who are responsible for the preparation of food and for the security and supervision of inmates in the kitchen area of the institutional facilities of the Sheriff’s Department. This position will work directly with inmates to supervise and train in the safety, preparation and serving of meals, including proper sanitation and ware washing. These positions are also responsible for ensuring constant care and control of all kitchen tools, equipment and utensils. Background: Prior to appointment, applicants will be fingerprinted and must pass an extensive background investigation, including a polygraph examination. Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony. Shift: Incumbents will be required to work weekends, holidays, rotating shifts and overtime as needed. Location: Positions may be located in San Bernardino, Rancho Cucamonga or Adelanto Physical: This position requires lifting up to 50 lbs., standing, squatting, and reaching. Certificate: Incumbents must obtain a San Bernardino County Food Handlers Certificate within two weeks of appointment. Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future. Applicants must meet one of the two options listed below: Option 1 — Considerable experience cooking food for a large number of persons or any equivalent combination of education or experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.
