Overview
The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) is currently seeking applicants for Park Police Officer Candidate positions. The Park Police secure and protect over 27,000 acres of park property in Prince George's County, on a 24-hour basis. Please complete the online application by clicking the Apply link. If you meet the requirements you will receive a formal invitation via email to take the Written Examination. The written exam is designed to assess cognitive ability measured with three non-cognitive measures: personality constructs, integrity, and biographical data. Applications that are mailed or hand-delivered will not be considered. Candidates will be screened and those meeting the minimum qualifications will receive a notification via email to attend the exam. Orientation: Candidates with passing scores will be invited back for an orientation. Agility Test: Applicants completing the written exam with a passing score will be invited back for an Agility Test. Medical Clearance forms must be completed prior to being allowed to take part in the Agility Test. Dress: Business casual attire for the written exam. Important: You must bring a current, unexpired, valid driver’s license and signed Medical Clearance Form with you on the day of testing. Applicants may purchase study materials from Industrial/Organization Solutions. It is strongly suggested that you purchase in preparation for this exam. If you are unable to make the allotted date and time of the entry level exam, you will be required to submit another application for consideration and will be notified of the next testing date. Test dates will not be rescheduled. Qualifications and Requirements
Experience:
No previous experience in law enforcement is required. Education:
High school diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED). Age:
Age requirements in accordance with the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission (currently age 21 by graduation from academy). Examination:
Candidate applicants must pass the Commission's written Police Officer Candidate examination and must pass an oral interview conducted by a Police Assessment board. Successfully pass a background investigation and pre-employment medical requirements. A background investigation will be conducted on each candidate to meet the Commission’s suitability requirements. Driver’s license:
Valid driver’s license in accordance with state and Commission rules and regulations. License must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties. Successfully pass the Commission’s written exam and oral board for park police officer candidates. Medical and Physical Standards:
Must pass a medical examination based on the Commission's medical standards for Park Police administered by a Commission-approved medical physician prior to appointment. United States Citizen by birth or naturalization. Classification:
Park Police Officer Candidate (0709). These positions are for those interested in working within Prince George's County only. Selection Process:
Written Examination; Agility Test; Completion and Submission of a Personal History Statement; Background Investigation/Voice Analysis; Oral Board Interview; Medical/Stress/Psychological Evaluations; Graduation from designated Police Academy. Disqualifications:
Reasons may include poor work history or driving record, felony conviction, illegal drug usage, falsification of documents, failure to meet physical standards, inability to complete any component, or other disqualifying factors as determined by the M-NCPPC Park Police Department. Medical testing:
