TxDOT is seeking a Bridge Engineer (Transportation Engineer I, II, III, or IV) located in Atlanta, TX to oversee the maintenance of bridges that connect communities across the 9-county Atlanta District. You’ll apply engineering principles to ensure structural integrity, safety, and compliance with state and federal standards. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, review plans, conduct inspections, and provide innovative solutions for aging infrastructure and new development. Perform transportation engineering work in planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work with governmental officials and private entities; follow standard practices with limited supervision. Assist in bridge inspection-related matters, schedule and oversee bridge inspection activities, and monitor contractor performance as applicable. Review designed and detailed drawings of bridges and related structures; analyze data and provide summaries. Perform advanced engineering design work including layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts; coordinate bridge research and propose cost-effective project-level designs for new, rehabilitated and reconstructed bridges. Prioritize bridge replacement, rehabilitation and repair efforts; coordinate with the Bridge Division and district staff on critical findings. Maintain bridge inspection data and respond to technical and policy questions related to bridge inspection. Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science (bachelor’s or higher degree accepted by TX PELS). Experience:

Experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent. Related graduate-level education may be substituted for experience (year-for-year). Licenses and Certification:

Valid driver’s license; ability to drive state vehicle. Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Texas or eligible to obtain Texas PE within six months of hire; if licensed in another state, must meet Texas Engineering Practices Act requirements and obtain Texas PE within six months. Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, hydrologic/hydraulic/geotechnical design, bridge standards and construction methods, and project management methodologies. Skills in performing calculations, applying engineering principles, coordinating multiple projects, and overseeing contract-related activities. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions; light work with lifting up to 20 lbs and occasional heavier items. Walking between work sites; close visual acuity for data and reading; pre-employment physical may be required. Drug testing requirements for safety-impact positions, with relevant regulatory notes included. Work Details
