The Transportation Supervisor oversees the safe, reliable, and efficient transportation of elderly residents living in an independent living and nursing home setting. This role ensures that residents are transported with dignity, compassion, and respect to medical appointments, therapy sessions, activities, outings, and other facility-related needs. The Transportation Supervisor manages drivers, vehicles, and schedules while ensuring compliance with all safety and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate daily transportation operations, including scheduling and assigning drivers for elderly and nursing home resident transport. Ensure safe and timely transport for residents to medical appointments, therapy, activities, and community outings. Train, support, and evaluate drivers in providing excellent customer service and compassionate care for elderly residents, including those with mobility limitations, cognitive challenges, or special medical needs. Oversee fleet maintenance, inspections, registrations, and service records. Ensure compliance with facility policies, HIPAA, and all local, state, and federal transportation regulations. Maintain transportation logs, schedules, and reports. Work closely with nursing, therapy, activities, and administrative departments to coordinate resident transportation. Address resident, family, and staff concerns with professionalism and empathy. Promote a culture of safety, service, and resident-centered care within the transportation team. Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred. Prior supervisory or transportation/logistics experience required; experience in healthcare or eldercare setting preferred. Knowledge of DOT regulations and transportation safety practices. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (CDL may be required depending on vehicle type). Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Compassionate, patient, and able to work effectively with elderly residents, including those with physical or cognitive challenges. Passenger Assistance/Motor Vehicle Operations Trainer Course from NMHCA - Facility willing to certify right candidate. Working Conditions
On-site position with frequent direct interaction with elderly nursing home residents and staff. May require assisting with wheelchairs, walkers, or transfers. Ability to sit, stand, bend, and walk for extended periods. Reports to:
