All new employees must complete several pre-employment requirements prior to starting. Position: Occupational/Physical Therapist – Hand Therapist
Orthopedic Therapy (Billings Clinic Orthopedic & Sports Medicine) Shift: Day Employment Status: Full-Time (0.75 or greater) Hours per Pay Period: 1.00 = 80 hours every two weeks (Non-Exempt) Starting Wage: DOE Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care, evaluations, consultations, and treatments to assist patients in reaching maximum physical performance for the upper quarter of the body. Utilize specialized assessment and treatment skills as a Certified Hand Therapist to prevent dysfunction, restore function, or slow progression of pathology to enhance participation in life activities for individuals with upper-quarter disease or injury. May work in hospital, Rehabilitation Center, Orthopedics/Sports Medicine, and/or Industrial Medicine/Occupational Medicine settings within Billings Clinic. Support and model behaviors consistent with the mission and philosophy of Billings Clinic and department/service. Provide population-based services and determine needs of target populations, considering cultural diversity and age-appropriate care. Make intervention recommendations (education programs, prevention strategies, ergonomic modifications, screening) based on available resources. Assist in implementation and monitor effectiveness of interventions; serve as a resource person/consultant. Organize and manage services; ensure environmental safety and advocate for patients; comply with organizational policies and procedures; participate in case management; assess patient satisfaction. Promote professional practice by maintaining ethical/legal standards and engaging in evidence-based practice and outcome studies. Evaluate upper quarter and relevant patient characteristics; interview patients, review history, select assessment tools, and assess/document status; consider cultural and age-appropriate needs. Develop treatment and discharge plans; establish short- and long-term goals; determine frequency of treatment in collaboration with patient and referring physician; evaluate rehab potential; choose appropriate treatment techniques (e.g., activity, ADLs training, manual therapy, strengthening, splinting, modalities, work hardening, wound care, and other modalities) to improve function. Discuss evaluations, goals, and treatments with patients and families to minimize anxieties and maximize cooperation; identify resources for referrals. Refer to other health professionals as needed; maintain communication with Medical Director and other departments regarding treatment plans and progress. Document the treatment plan; assess readiness and determine discharge needs including return to work; formulate and document discharge plan. Implement and modify treatment plans addressing edema/vascularity, pain, scar, ROM/flexibility, wounds, strength, dexterity, sensation, function, endurance, and posture/movement; document evaluations, progress, and discharge notes per policy and regulatory requirements. Complete daily patient charges and work schedule; identify needs and set goals for ongoing professional growth and development; participate in educational activities and departmental offerings to enhance skills. Provide instruction to patients as directed; maintain competency in safety standards relevant to job performance. Perform other duties as assigned to meet department/organization needs. Minimum Qualifications
Education: Degree of Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy from an accredited institution Experience: If applicant does not have a CHT certification, experience in Hand Rehabilitation/splinting is preferred Certifications and Licenses: Current certification as a Certified Hand Therapist, preferred; applicant willing to obtain CHT license after hire, required CHT Licensure Minimum Qualifications: Documentation of five years of practice as an occupational therapist; pass a comprehensive test of advanced clinical skills and theory in upper-quarter rehabilitation; recertify every five years Billings Clinic is Montana’s largest health system serving Montana, Wyoming and the western Dakotas.
