About the role

A mental health specialist will assist in running mental health programs. Facilitate groups in schools, youth and adult jails, and community settings. Train correctional officers and other staff on mental health topics and best practices. Support clients in developing coping strategies, emotional regulation, and overall mental wellness. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care for clients. Participate in outreach and community engagement initiatives. What you'll do

Facilitates group meetings at the Juvenile Halls with incarcerated youth. Facilitates groups based on curriculum standards per contract requirements. Creates curriculum ideas and PowerPoints for future contracts. Gathers and analyzes information on group participants through observation, interviews, self-report inventories, and/or group discussions. Collaborates with group participants in developing plans to positively manage and respond to issues; assists members with replacing unhealthy or dysfunctional behaviors with healthy choices. Collaborates with group participants to develop post-treatment activity plans. Assists group participants in developing new or strengthened communication skills and methods. Provide education to clients (if applicable and within the scope of competence). Evaluate the effectiveness of group educational/mentorship programs. May assist group participants in allocating needed services or resources. Present social services program information to the public. If applicable, develop and maintain accurate records regarding participant progress and evaluations. Maintains compliance with company policy, ethical codes and standards. Other duties and special projects as assigned. Required Skills/Abilities: Strong sense of diversity and inclusion for all group participants. Superb verbal and written communication skills. Compassionate and empathetic with a strong ability to establish and build trust. Ability to remain calm and reassuring in tense situations and to de-escalate arguments. May require a thorough understanding of human behavior, various behavioral and affective disorders, and the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of these disorders. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Ability to manage stress to work effectively. Thorough understanding of applicable ethical codes and standards. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in the field of behavioral sciences such as psychology, sociology, child development, social work, counseling, or marriage and family therapy. 1-2 years of experience (preferred). Experience leading groups. Experience working in a mental health position (preferred but not required). Access to a vehicle and ability to travel long distances if necessary. The pay range for this role is 20 - 25 USD per hour (Rancho Cucamonga, CA).
