Summer Nurse Externship SUMMER 2026 NURSE EXTERNSHIP (May 18th – July 25th, 2026)

Overview The Summer Nurse Externship is a 10-week program designed for nursing students entering their final year. The program begins with a two-week orientation including both classroom and clinical components, during which the nurse extern performs basic bedside care and selected nursing procedures. The Nurse Extern is assigned to a Registered Nurse for guidance throughout the Externship to perform basic bedside care and selected nursing procedures. Nurse Externs partner with an RN to learn and demonstrate physical assessment skills and routine basic care skills (bathing, safety, and hygiene activities). This program is intended for a nursing student entering their final year of an accredited nursing program.

Unit/Experience The 38-bed medical oncology unit serves patients with hematological and oncological malignancies from internal medicine, gastroenterology, infectious diseases, and other services. The unit also accommodates patients of size from various medical and surgical specialties. Nurses in this unit receive training in chemotherapy administration and the care of hematological/oncology patients.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Nursing student in final year of an accredited Nursing Program and one clinical rotation, or a Graduate Nurse without Boards required.
