Central Plant Operating Engineer
Mon - Fri 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

General Description: Under minimal supervision, responsible for the operation of the central plant for OU Health, performs visual inspections for operating equipment and mechanical systems, implements unit specific and facility-wide Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) preventative maintenance and repair solutions that enhance and support OUH operational and business performance. Essential Responsibilities: Operates central plant equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation for hospital services. Research, designs, and implements facility wide HVAC preventative maintenance and repair solutions that enhance and support OUH operational and business performance. Ensures the conditioning of the hospital spaces are appropriate for the level of care and use associated with the space and provides an environment conducive to healing for our patients. Ensures proper pressure relationships, temperature, humidity, and filtration is provided for high acuity care areas. Maintains, repairs, and installs equipment used to improve indoor air quality such as UV lighting in air handlers. Completes preventative maintenance tasks on time to ensure compliance with the hospital’s utility maintenance program. Maximizes performance through efficient and effective use of the computer system. Systems include building automation, fire alarm, etc. Determines operational requirements and needs for developing solutions and optimizing performance of existing HVAC, Refrigeration and Building Automation equipment and systems. Supports all users of applications, equipment and systems with timely implementation and ongoing maintenance of HVAC equipment and building automation applications. Maintains and enhances a technical body of knowledge. Reads, attends appropriate training/educational programs, benchmarks with colleagues and otherwise remains abreast of contemporary and best practices. Seeks to continually improve processes, systems, and consequent services. Uses tools and equipment appropriately. Provides the information necessary to maintain the system of metrics designed to measure effectiveness and timely responsiveness to work order tickets created through appropriate dispatch service. Maintains and contributes to a safe work environment. Consistently uses tools and equipment correctly on the job. Consistent with the expectations of a committed team member, performs other duties as requested or assigned. General Responsibilities: Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Education:
Associate Degree in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technology required. Experience:
Three (3) years of experience as a licensed HVAC technician required, healthcare field experience preferred. License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required:
State of Oklahoma Unlimited Mechanical Journeyman’s license required. Technician Type Universal EPA certification, City of Oklahoma City boiler operator registration, and State of Oklahoma Boiler Operator licenses Class 3 required within 6 months of hire. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to understand and interpret regulations associated with The Joint Commission Life Safety and Environment of Care chapters, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Oklahoma State Department of Health, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Excellent analytical skills are required to interpret and resolve complex technical issues, sometimes requiring original solutions in circumstances where the work product or service affects the design and operation of critical HVAC systems and equipment within OUH. Strong interpersonal communication skills are required to interact with others and discuss complex and sophisticated concepts and systems.
