About the Unit: Oncology is a 24 bed all private unit that is devoted to holistic care of cancer patients and their families. This challenging environment provides for development of critical thinking skills and head-to-toe assessments, including the care and administration of chemotherapy, pain management, and specialized cancer care. A basic understanding of dysrhythmias is required for oncology patients who may require cardiac monitoring. A multi-disciplinary team of doctors, nurses, dietitians, social workers, and massage therapists provide support to the oncology patients. New Graduate Nurses are welcome. Job Duties: The Oncology Nurse assesses and identifies patient needs and implements appropriate interventions. The Nurse establishes and maintains a plan for the delivery of nursing care; assures that nursing care interventions and activities are directed to resolve problems; and performs technical aspects of care competently. Oncology nurses must have strong critical thinking skills while providing compassionate care. The Oncology nurse also acts as a family and patient resource to guide them through all stages of the patient’s cancer journey.
