Highlights: Summary : The Histology Technologist shall provide timely and courteous service to patients, physicians, and hospital staff by performing Histology procedures accurately and efficiently. This individual shall detect and report unusual conditions to supervisor. The Technologist shall demonstrate knowledge of histologic techniques, principles, instruments, and their relationship. The Technologist shall assist the Pathologist with examination of specimens, as well as to process specimens and to prepare and stain microscopic sections. This individual will need to know how to maintain and/or troublshoot equipment and instruments. The Technologist will have the opportunity to also work on QI projects pertaining to the Laboratory and Histology. This position may have additional duties assigned that are within scope of the role. Education / Experience : Bachelor's degree in Biology and/or Chemistry required. Histological laboratory training culminating in national certification. Experience under certified director. License / Certification : ASCP Histology (HT), Histotechnology (HTL) or Cytologist (CT) required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : • Ability to work from broad directions and be self motivated. • Ability to prioritize workload to achieve maximum efficiency. • Ability to effectively communicate with people of various backgrounds throughout the organization. • Ability to provide a positive customer service experience to guest, visitors, and patients. • Knowledge of HIPAA standards and regulations. • Strong verbal and written communication skills. • Strong interpersonal skills. • The ability to communicate effectively with patients, guest, and hospital personnel. • The ability to show compassion and sensitivity for patient comfort. • The ability to maintain confidentiality Work Conditions/Physical Requirements: Frequent prolonged standing/walking; continuously exhibiting manual dexterity and mobility; frequently reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching; continuous ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less, to judge distance and space relationships; to bring objects into focus; and to distinguish and identify different colors.. There is occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching. There is frequent reaching, use of hands and repetitive action. Requires occasional lifting of supplies/equipment up to 25 lbs. Ability to communicate effectively in person and on phone. There is a continuous need for speaking with clear diction and hearing sensitivity in conversation either by phone or in person. Continuous visual acuity at close and distant range. Inside protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Minimal noise levels. Much exposure to computer work. Occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock. Some exposure to infectious disease while performing job-related tasks. Some exposure to hazardous chemicals. Occasional exposure to radiation.
