Summary: The Power Generation Tech will work remotely with limited direct oversight to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair engines, generators, and their support systems on company vessels and shore plant assets. This role will also document all work performed and provide detailed reporting and information to key personnel as requested. The incumbent will assist in the development of vessel and machinery maintenance scheduling, and will track, compile, and assist in scheduling maintenance, regulatory and compliance activities to ensure compliance with all internal and external regulations and operational requirements. This position requires extensive travel in remote Alaska locations while also supporting vessels in shipyards in Washington State and Oregon. Essential functions (responsibilities, tasks, supervisory needs): Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions. Perform equipment inspections and troubleshoot to determine deficiencies needing correction. Perform repairs on diesel engines, generators, DC control systems, AC power systems and other interrelated systems as needed to ensure proper performance of propulsion and generation systems. Verify repairs are completed properly by attending and overseeing equipment operation during load test and/or sea trials. Ensure that manufacturers procedures for repair are followed and support OEM equipment technicians during major repair events. Monitor costs and assist in performing risk assessments on equipment to maximize uptime and minimize total operational costs. Assist in tracking maintenance and repair activities performed on all major Trident vessel and shore plant assets. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized working environment. Assist in establishing a regular inspection cadence and make recommendations based on outcome. Maintain and record maintenance activities performed for each vessel and shore plant including parts utilized and their sourcing (i.e., vessel spares, purchased from vendor, etc.). Acquires knowledge of Trident’s Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions. Notifies designated personnel of any environmental or safety incidents or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and/or safety trainings. Experience balancing both short- and long-term objectives. Supports, promotes, and ensures work and progress alignment with the department's overall vision, objectives, and end goal. Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned. Required Qualifications (education, years of experience, KSAs): 6 years of experience repairing and maintaining diesel engines and systems and maintaining and repairing large bore high-speed diesel engines Owns set of mechanics tools, including multimeter. Organized and can manage input information from many sources. Has moderate computer skills, can operate multiple OEM diagnostic software programs. Performs work with energy and drive, values planning, but will take quick, decisive action when an opportunity presents itself. Collaborates positively to achieve team and company objectives. Works effectively within a diverse environment. Provides oversight for repair activities and decisions to minimize confusion or error. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to supervisor and other employees of the organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Preferred education and experience: Experience with maintenance and repair of medium speed diesels, generators, and systems. Previous OEM diesel engine/generator technician training and certification. Marine Engineering license, QMED or greater. Bachelor’s degree in maritime or marine engineering field. Additional eligibility requirements (language skills, training, certifications, DL, licensing): Valid, unrestricted driver’s license. Work environment (includes travel/on-call): While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to understand English, and utilize teamwork skills. The employee is frequently required to speak English, and use decision making skills. The employee is occasionally required to use interpersonal, customer service, mentoring, problem analysis, training, and supervision skills. The employee will be occasionally required to read and write English, perform basic math, use exercise independent judgment, and use discretion.
