We are seeking a skilled
Automation/Control Systems Specialist
to join our Automation team working from our Hamilton, ON office. The successful candidate will develop and configure PLC programs and automation devices, design and implement control systems, and lead installation and commissioning efforts. This role demands a hands-on, solution-driven individual who thrives in a multi-disciplinary environment, ensuring project success while meeting safety, timeline, and budget requirements. Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and configure PLC programs and automation devices (HMI, drives, switches, analyzers) based on design documents and functional descriptions. Create control system panel designs using AutoCAD and generate complete drawing packages aligned with approved specifications. Lead the installation, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting of control systems and instrumentation. Specify equipment and design solutions for control systems, instrumentation, and safety systems. Develop and enforce specifications and standards in compliance with legislation, industry regulations, and plant requirements. Manage projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely delivery within budget and adherence to safety protocols. Collaborate effectively in a multi-disciplined environment, managing tasks with minimal supervision. Evaluate emerging technologies and present insights to stakeholders and customers. Qualifications
University degree or college diploma in a related field. Minimum 3+ years of relevant industry experience. Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills. Advanced AutoCAD skills for electrical and I/O schematics. Proficiency in Control Systems (PLC, DCS, SCADA, HMI, PAC, drives), instrumentation, and safety systems. Hands-on programming experience with platforms such as Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, ABB, Honeywell, or Aveva. Knowledge of combustion safety systems, electrical theory, regulatory codes, and standards. Valid driver’s license. Preferred Assets
P.Eng. designation. Hands-on experience with variable-speed AC and DC drives. Advanced knowledge of industrial networking and Operational Technology (OT) security protocols. SQL database proficiency. TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety certification (or equivalent). Why Join JNE?
