Position Description:

The Field Engineer (FE) works directly for the Superintendent and is expected to exercise judgment and discretion in making recommendations, implementing policies and procedures, and handling a wide variety of matters in the field. The position is normally, but not necessarily, preparatory to becoming an Office Engineer or Project Engineer. The primary purpose of the position is to proactively aid the Superintendent in front-line field management. The FE is responsible for the majority of the layout on a project, supervision of trade workers and subcontractor employees, lift drawings, safety, and quality control responsibilities. Most of the time will be spent in the field, with some duties requiring work in the field office. This is a safety-sensitive position.

Position Qualifications:

A 4-year degree in Civil, Structural, Architecture, or Construction Management.

Valid Driver’s License.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel), ProjectSight, Primavera, and AutoDesk Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

Past internships in the construction industry (preferred but not required).

Experience with project layout (surveying) in conformance with design and contract documents.

Ability to check concrete forms for accuracy and adequacy before placement.

Experience with production trend analysis and report generation for schedule and cost control.

Assist with quality control, site safety, and coordination of trade partners as delegated by the project superintendent. May include supervising a small workforce for supervisory experience.

Coordinate material deliveries, inspect materials for quality and condition, and report issues.

Assist foremen and trade partners with interpretation of plans and specifications.

Oversee trade partners and direct workforces to gain supervisory experience.

Participate in safety meetings and safety audits.

Collaborate with the VDC team on scope of work, execution plans, and review 3D models.

Physical Work Classification & Demands:

Moderate Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds frequently, and/or 10 pounds constantly to move objects. The role involves walking, kneeling, sitting, crouching, reaching, stooping, reading, speaking, pushing, pulling, lifting, standing, and typing. It may include climbing ladders, scaffolding, and ramps, maintaining body balance, stooping, and operating vehicles. Exposure to high/low temperatures, noisy environments, and outdoor elements is possible.
