Responsibilities
- Demonstrate proficiency in pre‑start, post‑start inspections and safe shutdown procedures.
- Work various shifts in a team environment, maintaining accountability for daily functions.
- Perform daily safety and operational inspections per documented checklist and report deficiencies.
- Ensure routine maintenance aligns with equipment operations and maintenance manual.
- Understand equipment operation characteristics, controls, and emergency skills including fire response, power line contact, tipping, and malfunction characteristics.
- Operate equipment safely and climb on/off mobile equipment as required.
- Assist in other duties while not operating equipment.
- Maintain the safety aspects of operating equipment as a Safety Sensitive Position.
- Lift and carry 50–80 lb personally, up to 150 lb with assistance.
- Place and remove TBW concrete barriers, load trucks, and maintain site situational awareness.
- Maintain level grade while spreading and balancing material, recover spoil material, and load from a stockpile.
- Use graded stakes and surveyors for cuts and fills; load trucks up to 20 trucks per assignment.
- Change equipment attachments such as forks, boom to lifts, hydraulic hammer for demolition.
- Know maximum capacities of the equipment and understand utility location surrounding the work area.
- Lead a groundman to assist in locating utilities and grade checking.
- Stop the machine, apply secure pins before abandoning equipment.
Qualifications
- Construction related experience (roads, highways, bridges, etc.). Minimum 1‑year for Loader or Backhoe, 3‑year for Excavator or Bulldozer, 5‑year for roadway finishing work.
- Required documentation evidencing competency or certifications per industry standards and/or government agencies.
- High school or secondary education preferred.
