The Tank Farm Operator / Preventative Maintenance (PM) Technician role is responsible for the safe operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the tank farm and associated systems. The operator will perform preventive maintenance activities to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, operational reliability, and a safe working environment.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor tank farm systems, including acid/caustic tanks, pumps, piping, valves, and secondary containment.
- Conduct routine inspections of tank levels, pressure, temperature, and flow rates.
- Perform preventative maintenance (PM) on tank farm equipment, including pumps, valves, motors, sensors, scrubbers, and transfer systems.
- Maintain accurate logs and records.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and local environmental regulations regarding hazardous materials handling and storage.
- Respond to alarms, leaks, or abnormal operating conditions safely and promptly.
- Support facility shutdowns, startups, and maintenance projects as needed.
- Participate in safety training, emergency response drills, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with the EHS Manager and Production team to identify and correct potential hazards.
Qualifications And Skill Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED preferred; Technical or Vocational Certification preferred.
- 2+ years of industrial operations or maintenance experience.
- Experience with hazardous materials strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with preventative maintenance practices, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and confined space procedures.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, P&IDs, and equipment drawings.
- Computer skills for logging data and completing PM records.
- Forklift experience (or ability to obtain certification).
Physical And Safety Requirements
- Ability to lift to 50 lbs. and work in industrial environment.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and climbing ladders.
- Must wear required PPE.
- Commitment to working safely in a lead-acid battery manufacturing environment.
