The CT Technologist performs procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards, operates CT scanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency. Equipment includes scanner, post-processing stations/programs, IV contrast injectors, O2 and suction equipment, patient transport and patient monitoring equipment. Essential Functions

Examine requests and verify orders on each assigned patient; refer and question orders to the Radiologist before performing exam; contact ordering provider for discrepancies. Identify patients properly and assist while explaining procedures. Prepare patients and document on appropriate worksheets. Interview patients for medical history; review EMR for in-patients, ER and outpatients to obtain pertinent history; record medical history on requisitions; correlate other test results and laboratory data with the exam. Own the exam from start to finish, including dictated results. Prepare and administer IV contrast per protocols; record contrast type and amount when requested. Evaluate image quality; consult Radiologist as needed; process additional reconstructed images or measurements as instructed. Provide basic patient care; inform nursing staff of changes in condition; initiate life support when necessary; assist in code blue procedures during emergencies. Perform CT scanning and assist Radiologist/PA during invasive procedures; maintain sterile technique as required. Obtain medications or contrast material as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner. Practice radiation safety for self, staff, patients and families; follow safety standards. Report malfunctioning equipment to the department supervisor and clinical engineering/radiology engineer. Maintain safety regarding bloodborne pathogens and infectious disease; adhere to fire and safety procedures; participate in required trainings and safety modules. Work accurately and timely during crises; rotate shifts, including call backs, holidays and weekends; adhere to attendance policies. Operate radiology computer systems, enter orders and document contrast administration in the MAR. Keep work areas neat and stocked; assist other medical personnel during exams or services with CT. Physical Requirements

Requires moderate to heavy physical effort to lift/move patients and equipment. Occasional standing, walking and sitting; may involve bending, twisting, squatting or kneeling. Exposure to moving equipment and radiation; follow safety guidelines to prevent exposure. Education, Experience and Certifications

Graduate of an accredited two-year AMA program in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology. ARRT certification in Radiology or NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine and ARRT advanced registry in CT scanning within one year of hire; current CPR certification. Pay Range
