BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an extraordinary Oncology Veterinary Technician for our Arden Hills, MN location.
Overview We are looking for a passionate, self‑motivated technician who can multi‑task efficiently, demonstrates good communication skills, and has compassion for patients and clients. A minimum of two or more years’ experience in a specialty veterinary hospital is preferred.
Responsibilities
Perform physical examinations: accurately count heart, pulse, capillary refill, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
Understand normal vital and lab parameters and alert the clinician when values are abnormal.
Perform phlebotomy and place peripheral IV catheters in the cephalic vein.
Calculate basic medical math and check chemotherapy agent calculations and dosages.
Set up materials for chemotherapy administration; safely dispense and administer oral and SC/IM chemotherapy agents.
Properly shave and wrap IV catheters for chemotherapy infusion and know how to manage extravasation.
Admit oncology patients, obtain thorough histories including current medications, response to treatment, side effects, intensity and duration.
Discharge oncology patients with client education on post‑chemotherapy care, oral chemotherapy at home, side‑effect management and medication administration.
Maintain knowledge of common veterinary terms and abbreviations and communicate with other professionals using medical terminology.
Address client concerns during visits, updates, or after hospitalization; facilitate incoming calls competently.
Understand diagnostic work‑up protocols and tumor‑type knowledge as per hospital protocol.
Assist with anesthesia/monitoring equipment for ASA I or II patients and stay current on CPR guidelines.
Maintain hospital day‑to‑day function: stocking, cleaning, etc.
Qualifications
Minimum of two or more years’ experience in a specialty veterinary hospital.
Strong communication skills and compassion.
Quick thinker, self‑motivated, dependable, and knowledgeable.
Good math skills and ability to perform basic calculations.
Experience with chemotherapy administration is preferred.
Knowledge of anesthesia monitoring and CPR guidelines is beneficial.
