BluePearl Pet Hospital
is hiring an extraordinary Oncology Veterinary Technician at our Arden Hills, MN location. As an Oncology Technician, you will be self-motivated, a quick thinker, and able to multi-task efficiently. Good communication skills and compassion are a must. Prefer to have a minimum of two or more years' experience in a specialty veterinary hospital. The right candidate will be responsible for treating and monitoring patients as well as supporting the clinician with patient care and client communication. Responsibilities
Perform physical examinations and monitor vital signs (heart rate, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort). Understand normal vital and lab parameters and alert the doctor when abnormal. Perform phlebotomy. Place peripheral intravenous catheters in the cephalic vein. Calculate basic medical math. Set up appropriate materials for chemotherapy administration. Safely dispense and administer oral chemotherapy agents. Safely dispense, reconstitute and administer SC/IM chemotherapy agents. Check chemotherapy agent calculations and dosages. Properly shave and wrap for an IV catheter for chemotherapy infusion. Have knowledge of chemotherapy extravasation and what to do if it happens. Admit oncology patients and obtain thorough history including current medications and dosages, response to treatment and side effects, intensity and duration. Discharge oncology patients from the hospital with basic client education (e.g., handling at home, side effects, medication administration). Maintain solid grasp of veterinary medical terms and abbreviations and communicate with other veterinary professionals in medical terms. Address client concerns and answer them appropriately during visits, updates, or after hospitalization; facilitate incoming calls quickly and competently. Have knowledge of tumor types and understand oncology diagnostic work-up protocols (oncology terminology per hospital protocol). Possess working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients classified as ASA I or II. Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in the designated role as assigned by the attending clinician and/or supervisor. Maintain hospital operations for day-to-day function (stocking, cleaning, etc.). Why BluePearl?
