Senior Claims Examiner - Commercial Trucking

Position Summary
Athens Administrators is hiring a full‑time Senior Claims Examiner to support our Property & Casualty department. Employees who live within 26 miles of the Concord, CA, Orange, CA, San Antonio, TX, or Lake Mary, FL offices must work once a week in the office. The remaining days can be worked remotely if technical requirements are met and the employee resides in a state Athens operates in.
Primary Responsibilities
Review, analyze, and process complex commercial auto and trucking claims within assigned authority limits and consistent with policy and legal requirements.
Investigate, evaluate, and determine settlement value or denial of liability for severe or major commercial auto claims.
Within prescribed settlement authority, establish appropriate reserves for both indemnity and expense and review reserves on a regular basis to ensure adequacy.
Prepare comprehensive reports, identify and communicate specific claim trends and account or policy issues to management.
Manage the litigation process through the retention of counsel, adhering to line‑of‑business litigation guidelines for budget, bill review, and payment.
Document and manage claims from inception through closure, ensuring appropriateness of all payments.
Exchange information with clients, claimants, insurance brokers, inspectors, producers, and account managers.
Assist in training new employees and provide daily guidance to other examiners.
Coordinate and work with vendor services such as contractors, emergency repair, cleaning services, and replacement services.
Facilitate between claimants, clients, brokers, and attorneys to resolve liability claims.
Attend meetings and educational seminars for professional development and maintain required licenses.
Participate in department meetings and conduct quarterly file reviews with the client.
Essential Position Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required; AA/AS or BA/BS preferred.
8–10 years of complex/major commercial auto claims experience, including proficiency in investigation and resolution of severe to major casualty claims.
Moderate to major bodily injury claims experience required.
High exposure commercial trucking auto liability experience required.
Litigation experience required.
Must possess a license from the domiciled state and a minimum of one license in NY, TX, or FL; additional state adjuster license(s) may be required within 180 days.
Experience with property and casualty insurance policies, insurance tort laws, codes, and procedures.
Proficiency in investigation and resolution of severe to major-level casualty claims.
Time management and project management skills.
Negotiation skills.
Well‑developed verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi‑task.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Reasoning ability, including problem‑solving and analytical skills.
Ability to be trustworthy, dependable, and team‑oriented.
Integrity and confidentiality in handling sensitive client information.
Reliable commute to meetings and events as required.
