Job Description Summary:
The Staff Psychiatrist provides a full range of psychiatric services within the Psychiatric Practices as well as the Turnaround Ranch. Staff Psychiatrist also participates in the after‑hours on‑call rotation for the Stephens Unit and Senior Serenity Unit of Freeman Health System. Staff Psychiatrist provides services to individuals impacted by a variety of behavioral health (addiction/substance use and mental health) issues, recognizing that the individuals we serve often times have experienced trauma that affects their development and adjustment. Staff Psychiatrist demonstrates a warm and welcoming empathetic, hopeful attitude, conveying a philosophy of dual recovery. Staff Psychiatrist will be trained in trauma‑informed care and will work to help provide services in an environment that is sensitive and responsive which will prevent victimization, abuse, or trauma as a result of the care received. Staff Psychiatrist is administratively responsible to the Chief Administrative Officer.
Education
Doctorate of Medicine
Work Experience
Must have completed a residency in Psychiatry.
Responsibilities
Perform required psychiatric services for patients of the Outpatient Psychiatric Practices, Turnaround Ranch, as well as patients of the Stephens and Sr. Serenity Behavioral Health Units.
Responsible for psychiatric evaluations and medication checks.
Provide emergency psychiatric coverage for the Center on a rotation basis.
Provide psychiatric consultations under the following conditions: a) referrals from Center staff; b) during office hours - requests for emergency consultations; c) physician referrals on hospital patients; and d) Center emergency on‑call staff requests for consultation for consideration of inpatient admissions or other case dispositions.
Responsible for providing admissions, hospital calls, inpatient staffing and discharges on psychiatric inpatients and, as such, has final determination of the diagnosis and detail of the treatment plan for these patients.
Oversee all medical aspects of the Psychiatric Practices and shall review, update and sign off on all policies and procedures on medical issues.
Provide patient education regarding the effects of medication and its relationship to mental illness.
Responsible for seeing that all patients receiving neuroleptic medications be screened every six months by the Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale.
Ensure that all patients receiving Lithium will have an annual blood level ordered. This shall be done more often if deemed necessary by the Psychiatrist.
Enter into a Collaborative Practice Agreement with any Advance Practice Nurse working in their clinic and shall adhere to the standards promulgated therein.
Be a member of the Strategic Psychiatric Physicians Group.
Attend Physician meetings as scheduled.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
Normal office environment.
Typical demands include prolonged sitting, frequent standing, bending, stooping, and occasional lifting.
Requires normal range of hearing and manual dexterity sufficient to operate keyboard, telephone, photocopier, calculator, and other office equipment as needed.
Requires ability to remain calm during stressful events, to occasionally work irregular hours, and work with exasperated individuals.
Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
TB test upon hire.
