Job Description Summary The Staff Psychiatrist provides a full range of psychiatric services within the Psychiatric Practices and the Turnaround Ranch. The role also participates in after‑hours on‑call rotation for the Stephens and Senior Serenity Units of Freeman Health System. Services are delivered to individuals impacted by behavioral health issues, including addiction/substance use and mental health conditions, with an emphasis on trauma‑informed care and dual recovery principles. The Staff Psychiatrist reports administratively to the Chief Administrative Officer.

Education Doctorate of Medicine (MD)

Work Experience Completed a residency in Psychiatry.

Responsibilities

Perform psychiatric services for patients in the Outpatient Psychiatric Practices, Turnaround Ranch, and the Stephens and Senior Serenity Behavioral Health Units.

Conduct psychiatric evaluations and medication checks.

Provide emergency psychiatric coverage on a rotation basis.

Provide psychiatric consultations for referrals from center staff, office hour emergency requests, physician referrals for hospital patients, and on‑call staff consultation requests.

Manage admissions, hospital calls, inpatient staffing, and discharges for psychiatric inpatients; maintain final determination of diagnosis and treatment plan.

Oversee all medical aspects of the Psychiatric Practices, reviewing, updating, and signing off on policies and procedures related to medical issues.

Provide patient education regarding medication effects and their relationship to mental illness.

Ensure neuroleptic medication patients are screened every six months using the Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale.

Ensure patients on Lithium have an annual blood level ordered; more frequent monitoring if clinically indicated.

Enter into a Collaborative Practice Agreement with any Advanced Practice Nurse working in the clinic and adhere to the documented standards.

Be a member of the Strategic Psychiatric Physicians Group.

Attend scheduled Physician meetings.

Perform any other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

Normal office environment.

Typical demands include prolonged sitting, frequent standing, bending, stooping, and occasional lifting.

Requires normal range of hearing and manual dexterity sufficient to operate keyboard, telephone, photocopier, calculator, and other office equipment.

Requires ability to remain calm during stressful events, occasionally work irregular hours, and work with exasperated individuals.

Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.

TB test upon hire.
