Compact Construction Sales Manager

Summary:
This position focuses on key accounts sales, customer relationship development, and corporate leadership in managing the John Deere Compact Construction Equipment product portfolio. The role will develop and implement the sales plan, coach the sales force, achieve marketing objectives, and ensure after‑sale product support. Requires at least 50% travel within the territory and occasional travel outside the territory for training.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Lead the Sales Department and the organization, directing and motivating a professional team to accomplish company growth and quality objectives.
Recruit, hire, train, and coach Compact Construction Equipment account managers.
Conduct research, set goals, forecast quotas, analyze sales statistics, and develop sales campaigns.
Ensure customer satisfaction and maintain strong relationships with account managers and vendors to maximize incentives and market share.
Handle sales department issues, provide performance feedback, and study departmental financials monthly.
Understand P&L, balance sheets, and quarterly forecasts; accurately forecast and budget.
Participate in community and industry involvement.
Qualifications
Proficiency in driving sustainable results, focusing on customers, making sound decisions, influencing effectively, and building relationships.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Technical Skills & Knowledge
Knowledge of AOR/customers/alliance partners, finance programs, and products.
Broad-based business, sales, CRM, and marketing skills.
Understanding of heavy machinery dealer business practices, including John Deere practices.
Willingness to travel into challenging environments for extended periods.
Education, Skill, and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, or a minimum of 3 years related experience and/or training.
Strong communication skills with teammates and customers.
Strong problem‑solving and self‑management abilities.
Proficiency with MS Office, especially Excel and Outlook.
Basic arithmetic skills and ability to apply common sense instructions.
Quick learner with out‑of‑the‑box thinking.
Extensive driving required; overnight travel required.
Physical Demands
Regularly stand, use hands and arms, communicate orally and visually.
Walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl frequently.
Occasionally sit.
Lift or move up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
Requires close vision and color vision.
