Summary The Tucson VA Medical Center is recruiting for a Full-Time, Permanent Physician (Neurology) who will report directly to the Chief of Neurology. The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVACHS) is seeking to add a full‑time neurologist to our Neurology Division. Commitment to excellence in patient care and an interest in teaching are essential. A record of contribution to the scientific literature is preferred, as is a willingness to participate in clinical trials.

The Tucson VA is a tertiary care facility providing a full range of clinical services including complex coronary angioplasty, electrophysiology, cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, Mohs surgery and structural heart procedures. It has been a flagship quality provider within the VA and was a 2012 winner of the prestigious Robert W. Carey Performance Excellence Award. We are in a growth area for the VA and are designing a new outpatient clinic building.

SAVACHS is the principal teaching affiliate of the University of Arizona Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy. Candidates must be eligible for a faculty appointment with the University of Arizona commensurate with clinical experience and academic achievement to facilitate teaching of medical students, residents and fellows.

The incumbent is expected to actively participate in quality improvement activities and comply with rules and regulations of the agency, facility and department. The incumbent will also support the supervision and training of fellows, residents and medical students from the University of Arizona College of Medicine rotating through the Neurology division. The candidate must maintain American Heart Association BLS certification and comply with VA and SAVAHCS regulatory requirements. Investigators with VA Merit Review Awards receive up to thirty‑five percent protected time for research. Compensation & Benefits Pay:

Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Paid Time Off:

50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave and 11 paid Federal holidays per year)

Retirement:

Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401(k) with up to 5% VA contributions

Insurance:

Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long‑term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)

Licensure:

1 full and unrestricted license from any U.S. state or territory

CME:

Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full‑time with board certification)

Contract:

No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Requirements

U.S. Citizenship; non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy.

All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment are subject to a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment.

Selective Service registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

Must be proficient in written and spoken English.

Must pass a pre‑employment physical examination.

Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is required for all VA Health Care Personnel.

Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Basic Requirements

United States citizenship (non‑citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited).

Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent medical degree from an accredited U.S. institution.

Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or Washington, D.C.

Residency training in an accredited core specialty leading to board certification; approved residencies include ACGME or AOA programs. Non‑U.S. residency programs may be considered only if followed by five years of verified U.S. practice and deemed appropriate by the Medical Staff Executive Committee.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Education (Full Details) Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an institution accredited by LCME or OCOM. Foreign medical graduates must meet ECFMG requirements and obtain a certificate if applicable.
