Ideal Candidate Ohlone College seeks faculty with a passion for teaching, student‑oriented approach, and strong commitment to the mission and ideals of the community college. The ideal candidate will excel in student engagement, employ innovative teaching strategies, and demonstrate continuous professional development.
Position Description Ohlone College is establishing a pool of qualified applicants for temporary part‑time teaching assignments. Assignments include day, evening, and weekend courses, and may be in‑person, online or hybrid.
Responsibilities
Teach Computer Science courses in accordance with post‑secondary level course outlines.
Evaluate student work using clear criteria, and provide timely feedback.
Maintain accurate records (grades, syllabi, attendance) according to deadlines.
Create an equity‑based and welcoming classroom environment.
Perform duties required by board policy, the United Faculty of Ohlone, the Faculty Handbook, and as assigned at Fremont Campus, Newark Center, or online via eCampus.
Teach part‑time assignments in areas such as Object‑Oriented Programming (C++, Java, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, PHP), modern web technologies, cloud programming, CSS3, HTML, virtualization (VMWare, QEMU, VirtualBox), and database concepts (MySQL).
Minimum Qualifications Master’s in computer science, computer engineering, mathematics, cybernetics, business administration, accounting, engineering, information science, or equivalent. Commitment to equity‑based, anti‑racist, culturally responsive instruction; proven responsiveness to diverse student backgrounds and needs.
Desirable Qualifications
Community college teaching experience (desired).
Experience using innovative teaching methods for student engagement.
History of creating inclusive syllabi and equitable classroom materials.
Experience addressing equity issues, working with minoritized students, and practicing reflexive teaching.
Proficiency with course management systems (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work successfully in a team environment.
